Over the last six years, 3.8 million people have died in the Democratic Republic of Congo as a result of the most deadly conflict to have taken place since the end of the second world war. Tens of thousands of women and children have been victimised and subjected to torture and sexual violence at the hands of armed gangs. Every single day 40 women are brutally attacked in the eastern part of the country. Accounts of those who have survived were collected in March 2005 on a fact-finding tour carried out by Vivere. Three months later, in Switzerland, people have decided to speak out and make these accounts public.
