The Vivere-Syria team addresses this narration: “Two babies, two sisters, orphans of their father. In a poor quarter of Homs, and in a small miserable room, lives a very poor family: the father, the mother, and their little Salma, while Jouna is, still, very quiet, in the belly of her mother. Dad gets up every day, anxious and worried: how to secure bread for his little family? Very often, while drinking the cup of tea with a piece of the bread and a few olives, he remains hungry to leave some food for his wife who feeds herself a little more than him, in order to be able to give some drops of milk to little Salma, who clings to the breast of her mother to calm her hunger with the few drops of milk that remain. One morning, as usual, the father leaves his little home to find some work, and to provide bread for his family …, but he did not know that he had an appointment with death! An atrocious death, in a criminal explosion! And now the unfortunate mother is left afflicted, disarmed, in front of her little Salma! and a few months later, she gives birth to Jouna! .. A heavy responsability!… It’s hard, very hard! .. And here comes Vivere’s milk program, and all the friends of Life which enters this little home, and draws a little smile of life on the face of the mother and her little kids! … |

4 ° Pakistan
Our local partner informs us that following the pleadings (and perseverance) of the lawyer Mohamed Ali, the detainee Shaffique was removed from the Criminal Court where he risked the death penalty for the alleged rape of a young girl. Morphological analyses were carried out to establish his real age (bone test, dentition, etc.) whose results, such as administrative identity or registration documents, are frequently suspected of being false by the investigation and the accusation. On the basis of information obtained from the school authorities, and after a bitter pleading, the lawyer was able to argue effectively; the lawsuit and the proceedings against Shaffique were referred to a Juvenile Court.
It should be noted that in Pakistan, one-third of the inhabitants do not have a birth certificate and in the case of the most serious crimes, the question of the age of the suspect, when there is doubt about the minority, is studied only in the trial phase, whereas after several years of pre-trial detention the 17-year-old has become an adult … and the possible evidence of his age at the time of the crime has become very fragile …
